
the last sunset in 2006. we sat and watched the real ball drop while eating pizza at venice beach.


here's the last one, then seconds after this picture was taken, the sun slipped past the horizon's edge, and the last burning light of 2006 went out.

after the sun went down, we watched the drum circles playing while women, men, and children danced in the middle.

so later, just before midnight, we went to sunset & vine and just as the clock struck midnight, thousands of bits of confetti were flying through the air, horns were honking, people were screaming, someone was shooting bottle rockets from the crowded sidewalks, a group of born-again christians were singing choir songs over the chaos and handing out cards of wisdom and piety, someone set up an illegal hotdog stand and the dogs were bacon-wrapped with grilled onions and smelled awesome, i slipped on a loogie on the sidewalk & would've fallen had it not been for shawn, people were hanging out the windows of their cars and screaming, police officers were posted at every corner, and a homeless man tried to sell me his flip-flops. life IS beautiful!
